Things to do

Failsworth is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a calmer pace of life, access to Manchester, and the freedom to head into the countryside with ease. Its position means it’s easy to access the M60 and commute to the city centre (or onwards to Oldham or Rochdale) too.

Equally, it’s closer to the Peak District and is home to several, expansive green spaces – Daisy Nook country park, Memorial Park and southerly Brookdale Park to name but a few.

Failsworth properties tend to be from the late 19th to mid-20th century, including Victorian terraced houses, semi-detached homes, and 20th-century estates. Unique character properties include converted mills and a few historic cottages.

The best properties can often be found on streets such as Waverley Crescent as well as Warwick and Westminster Road. These boast some of the larger, semi-detached and detached homes that you’ll find int the area.

Failsworth is easy to navigate, and it’s equally easy to make your way into Manchester or to travel out further afield.

  • Car & Road – Failsworth is well-connected by major roads like the A62 which runs directly through Failsworth, providing an easy route into Manchester city centre. The M60 motorway is easily accessible too. Oldham is just a 10-min drive away via the A62, and Stockport is reachable in 25 mins on the M60.
  • Bus – Bus routes offer direct links to Manchester, Oldham, Ashton-under-Lyne, and other nearby towns. The 83 & 84 routes provide frequent services to Manchester city centre in 20 mins.
  • Train – The nearest train station to Failsworth is Moston, which is just a short drive or bus ride away. From Moston Station, regular services run to Manchester Victoria in about 10mins.
  • Tram – The Failsworth tram stop is situated on the Oldham and Rochdale Line, with services running every 12 mins at peak times. Journeys to the city centre takes 15 mins, and connect to other locations like Oldham, Rochdale, and Bury.

Many amenities are clustered around Oldham Road, which is a major thoroughfare running through the middle of Failsworth with multiple dining and drinking options around it.

These include several well-regarded pubs (The Dutch Birds, Royal Oak Inn, and The Millgate), and numerous other amenities including Aldi, Tesco, a pharmacy, medical practice and a large (adjacent) business centre.

There’s plenty of interesting places to explore in Failsworth – take a look below.

  • Daisy Nook Country Park – A beautiful park offering scenic walks, picnic areas, and a canal, with a variety of wildlife and well-maintained trails.
  • Failsworth Pole – A historic landmark commemorating the settlement of Failsworth. It’s a point of local pride and offers a glimpse into the town’s past.
  • Brookdale Golf Club – A well-maintained golf course, with a welcoming clubhouse with great amenities and regular social events.
  • Crime Lake – A picturesque lake created accidentally in the 18th century. It’s a serene spot for walking, bird watching, and simply enjoying the outdoors.

There’s also plenty to do in and around Failsworth, and plenty more if you’re prepared for a quick car ride into Manchester city centre. Here’s a few of the options:

  • Cycle Along the Medlock Valley – Take advantage of the dedicated cycling paths along the River Medlock, offering beautiful views and a great workout. Ideal for both casual cyclists and serious bikers.
